The Waikiki “suite” traps
In Waikiki, the traps are junior suites that Booking.com lists with a “living room”, studios called suites, and one-bedroom suites capped at 3 guests.
“King with sofa bed”
One room. The sofa bed is a few feet from your bed.
“Family suite”
Often two hotel rooms joined by an inside door.
“Junior suite”
One room with a seating area. No bedroom door.
What we found at specific hotels
- Ilikai Hotel "Luxury Junior Suite": a kitchen and a seating area with a queen sofa bed, but the bed is in the same room
- Park Shore Waikiki "Ocean View Junior Suite": a king or queen and a full sofa bed in about 298 sq ft, sold for 4
- Imperial Hawaii "Ohia Suite": called a suite and sold for 4, but it is a studio with a Murphy bed and a sofa bed in one room
- Waikiki Beachcomber "Junior Suite": a newly styled room with a sofa bed, not a separate bedroom
- Hyatt Regency Waikiki "Junior Suite": Booking.com lists a "Living room: 1 sofa bed" for this 45 m² room; only the hotel's One Bedroom Suite (93 m²) has a separate bedroom
What to look for instead
- “Separate bedroom” or “one-bedroom suite” together with a living room.
- A sofa bed in the living room, not “king with sofa bed”.
- A maximum of 4 guests or more. Some real one-bedroom suites allow only 2 or 3.
