The Los Cabos “suite” traps
In Los Cabos, the traps are junior suites listed with a “living room”, family suites that are really two-bedroom units, and one-bedroom suites that Booking.com sells for 3 adults even when the resort allows 4.
“King with sofa bed”
One room. The sofa bed is a few feet from your bed.
“Family suite”
Often two hotel rooms joined by an inside door.
“Junior suite”
One room with a seating area. No bedroom door.
What we found at specific resorts
- Booking.com labels Esperanza's "Oceanfront Spa Junior Suite" with a bedroom and a living room, but it is a junior suite for 3
- Viceroy sells "Junior Suites" with a sofa bed listed in a living room, but the resort says they sleep two
- Hard Rock and Grand Velas "Family Suites" are two-bedroom units, not one-bedroom suites
- Many Los Cabos one-bedroom suites (Casa Dorada, Park Hyatt, Hacienda del Mar) are sold on Booking.com for 3 adults even when the resort allows 4
What to look for instead
- “Separate bedroom” or “one-bedroom suite” together with a living room.
- A sofa bed in the living room, not “king with sofa bed”.
- A maximum of 4 guests or more. Some real one-bedroom suites allow only 2 or 3.
