Cancun "suite" traps for families
Many resorts call almost every room a suite. For a family that wants a bedroom door between parents and kids, these are the labels that most often mislead:
- Hyatt Ziva Cancun 'King with Sofa Bed' rooms: one 483 sq ft room
- Finest Playa Mujeres Junior Suites '1 King, 1 Sofa Bed': one 800 sq ft room
- Marriott Cancun 'Guest room, 1 King, Sofa bed': standard room
- Palace resorts call nearly every room a 'suite'; their 'Family' suites are two connecting rooms
- Paradisus, Hard Rock, Occidental and Grand Fiesta Americana 'two bedroom' family options are connecting rooms
- Garza Blanca's 1-bedroom suite has the exact layout but a 3-guest maximum
What to look for instead
- The words "separate bedroom" or "one-bedroom suite" together with a living room.
- A sofa bed listed in the living room, not just "king with sofa bed".
- A maximum occupancy of 4 or more. Some real one-bedroom suites allow only 2 or 3 guests.
- "Family suite" or "two-bedroom" often means two connecting rooms, not one suite.
